This is the first of my new weekly posts related to food, eating and drinking. Other posts throughout the week will be related to other facets of living a happy healthy green life.

So why so frequent?

  1. Our food, environment and our health are tightly woven together. The food we eat, the water we drink, the air we breathe and the sunlight we absorb provides the materials our bodies needs to build, maintain and repair themselves.
  2. Food is a tremendous source of wellbeing, both physical and mental. Our food and how we eat it can build relationship and community.
  3. I am totally fascinated by the potential to build a healthy food system that helps the environment as well as ourselves. I believe that we can regenerate the natural environment, while providing meaningful work to people and restoring community.

To be blunt the food system, on which most of us rely for our food is great at producing a huge quantity of food using huge amounts of energy, but not so good at giving us high quality, naturally flavourful nutrient rich food that builds our bodies and minds. This same system is trashing the environment, which further compromises our health and our ability to grow food.

The good news is that all the solutions we need to be healthy and grow lots of food in an environmentally restorative manner are already here. No new technologies required. No crazy special ingredients or miracle foods. Just good well grown food that is preserved, processed, cooked and consumed in a healthy manner.
